The Life Giving Power of One Word From the Lord
Almost a year ago at our annual Intercessor’s Camp, July 2016, a speaker on the program, Bishop Courtney McLean, ministered powerfully on Saturday morning. During the time of ministry he had a word that he gave generally and I knew it applied specifically to me. He said “ Some of you are going to see someone get shot, but you are going to lay hands on that person and they are going to recover.”
This word was such a serious word to me that I kept it quiet to myself until I felt a release to share the word. I would replay various scenes in my mind and wonder if I would have the courage to actually step forward and do what the word seemed to be saying. Oftentimes I would wonder too, “ Is today the day? Is today the day I will see someone get shot and pray for them?” I’d think about this word from the Lord as I drove to our office located in downtown Kingston or as I drove to one of our prayer clubs which is located in an inner city school where, sadly, gun violence occurs periodically.
I had a strong sense that demons of murder and terror would flee just knowing that a Christian (Me!) was coming; one armed with faith and the expectation of the fulfilment of such a word. Would the enemy knowingly shoot someone if they were going to be prayed for and healed and knew God would receive all the glory?
Wednesday, May 24, as Carol and I went to our usual prayer club meeting, the children were distressed and told us the news that their grade four classmate, Nicky, had been shot over the weekend and was in the hospital. With tears in their eyes, they said Nicky’s legs couldn’t move and she had to wear diapers.
Later ,we learned from Nicky’s mother that on Saturday, May 20th, (the night before Nicky’s 10th birthday) she was at her gate going to a neighbourhood shop for milk when she was hit in her spine by crossfire of warring gang members.
It wasn’t until after our first visit to Nicky at the hospital that the Lord brought the revelation to me about the word given almost a year ago…. “You will SEE someone get shot and you are are going to lay hands on that person and they are going to recover.” I had seen someone get shot, not in the way or in the context I had originally thought, but I had seen it, been aware of it, experienced it through someone close to me, a member of our prayer club. Then, my faith soared to believe even more for Nicky’s complete recovery as I laid my hands on her and prayed.
Continue to pray in agreement for Nicky’s complete healing. In her own words, “I have been thinking a lot about God.”
The doctors moved her to Mona Rehab week before last, but had to move her back to the Bustamente Children’s Hospital due to a bladder infection. She still has a catheter. Nicky can now sit up but has to wear a brace as much as possible – an uncomfortable vest that has steel in it to support her back. Her mother told me this week that Nicky is turning herself in the bed and she can wiggle her toes on her left foot! She doesn’t have the painful shocks in her legs like she once had.
Continue to believe and pray for more miracles for this child. Email or what’s app me your messages of love and concern and faith for Nicky. She and her family, especially her mother, Simone, are greatly encouraged by your prayers and support.
