There are two things that seem to have been “shouting” at me in recent months…the cry of the righteous against unrighteous rulers and the ever increasing harassment and persecution of believers…both occurring, simultaneously, world-wide.
On every continent, believers have gone to their knees, joined prayer groups, spoken up in public, ran for elected office; all with the hope, petition, desperation to see their nations and their leaders return to righteousness. 11 Chronicles 7:14 has, perhaps, been prayed by more, more times than at any other time. To tell a “funny” on myself, I have prayed it so much for our own country that I never really thought of it in relation to other nations until hearing brothers and sisters from, Uganda, Malaysia, and Kenya pray it as fervently for their own country.
As for harassment and persecution, yes, Americans still have it “easy” but Intercessors – being “world Christians” – hear the reports from colleagues in India, China, Nigeria, Nepal, and Syria (to name just a few) where homes and lands are being destroyed or confiscated, acid is being thrown on those rejecting Islam, children are being abducted and Believers (young and old) are being murdered for their faith.
So, why the “shouting?” I believe it is to bring all these things into perspective…as in, “How does this apply to my/our life/lives?” Let me suggest the “how” and the “why” with two verses of scripture – a bit rearranged verse wise.
HOW: Romans 12:1-3
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”
WHY: Romans 8:19
“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.”
