Joshua 24:15 (NIV)” But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Perhaps like me, many of you have prayed  and declared this (emphasized) phrase of Scripture over your children and grandchildren. I know I have for years. In the last few days, under the restrictions of the “new normal,” I have sensed the Lord taking me in a new direction with its meaning as He posed this question: “Once this is over, and we walk out the doors of our homes, who will we be and what “master” will we serve?”

This time of confinement is one in which the Lord desires that we draw close and hear from heaven. This is especially so for our children and youth. I hear the Holy Spirit saying it is not a time for them to just “enjoy” or to just “wait it out” but to listen. There are instructions being given for the time of release and beyond. Everything that once “was” is now (hopefully, potentially) changed-for the better as God sees it. One of the biggest arenas of change will be their schools.

With the strengthening of 1st Amendment rights for both students and teachers by President Trump, the spiritual atmosphere over our schools was changed. Now, having been shut down, our schools are being emptied of all the ungodly, anti-Christ hindrances which were controlling influences. It’s like a “WELCOME BACK, JESUS!” mat has been laid at the thresholds of all our institutes of “higher” learning! (An aside here: no better time to go prayer-walk or prayer-drive every campus!)

For all of us, including those sons, daughters and grandchildren, it is a time to reflect on what or whom we have been serving…what ideologies, interests, desires, pressures…and do some spiritual housecleaning. Get out the brooms! Some of us might just need a little whisk broom while others, upon reflection, might head for the industrial size. Either way, as a prophetic act (either mentally or as an actual physical act,) sweep away the debris and dross that has, perhaps, obscured or compromised the sure footing we should have on the Rock. Rediscover, where our hearts, minds, actions and time have been focused and allow God, if necessary, to repurpose our lives.
