Philippians 3:12-14 – Pressing Toward the Goal

12 Not that I have already attained,[a] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [b]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Is anyone else still doing it or am I the only one? “Doing what?” you might ask.    IRONING!  I LOVE TO IRON!

I’m still smiling a little that this is the subject that came to me when I thought about approaching the first newsletter of the New Year with a (hopefully) inspiring exhortation. The scripture verse was the easy part!

Truthfully, I can’t think (spur of the moment) of anyone else I know who still irons. Most of my friends and family look at me like I’m daft and have never heard of the new “non-wrinkle” miracle fibers and machines that produce (at least somewhat) “wear-ready” clothing. My theory…if you have to inspect a garment closely to see if what appears to be wrinkles are meant to be or not…well, you get my drift.

NOTHING like a well pressed (and yes, perhaps even starched) blouse or shirt! They definitely draw attention, turn heads and elicit compliments in a “wash and wear” society.

I do have a point, salient, I hope.  Straightening out the laundry mess by sorting, spot treating, choosing temps, etc…all to eradicate the evidence of wear and tear, “oopses” etc. Sweat, stains, stress on fabric…the resulting product still needs (in many cases) some extra attention…PRESSING.

Ironing or pressing, takes time, heat, steam and strength to accomplish its purpose but, when finished, the end product is ready for prime time!!

So, for 2019, JOIN ME – PRESS FORWARD!
