“They need a name.”
That’s what I (Mary) heard from the Holy Spirit late one night as I said a quick prayer before bed for Angelique, our newest WSC Director. Little did I know of the importance of those four, small words!
With the help of WSC Ambassador, Victor Imanaturikumwe, Angelique is now directing more than sixty children and youth at a refugee camp in Rwanda. Thousands of people have been displaced – in the middle of the covid-19 crisis – from recent flooding in the area. Some of those displaced are our own Shapers and their families.
When I shared the need for a name for this particular club with Victor, he began to tell me of the importance of the naming of every newborn in Rwanda. In Rwandan culture, the child belongs not only to the parents and immediate family but, to the community as well. A naming ceremony – Kwita Izina – is held publicly with gifts and much celebration. Many people give input as to the appropriate name for the child but the final decision is usually made by the father.
We believe that God is asking for a name for this Club because it is the beginning of the fulfillment of the prayer/request we have made of Him…to have a WSC in every refugee camp throughout the world. The name of this Club will become/reflect the DNA of every refugee camp WSC to follow.
Victor, Angelique and our Shapers are prayerfully considering three names. We can’t wait to share that news with you! For now, we are asking for your help to provide a proper celebration for the Kwita Izina. Holy Spirit knew the importance of a name in Rwanda and we have the privilege to follow protocol to have WSC accepted by the whole community!
$350 will provide food, Bibles for the 10 adults who were recently saved, a Bible and materials like notebooks and pens for Angelique’s use, some play equipment like balls and jump ropes, and a gift of shoes for each one of our new Shapers.
We’ll let you know when the naming ceremony will be so you can be praying and blessing along with all the others!
Thank you for catching, keeping and facilitating the vision…
…for such an (exciting) time as this!
